What Is CBD Oil And Why It’s Good For You?

What Is CBD?

When people hear the term CBD, they often relate it to cannabis and getting high. Contrary to this opinion, CBD is not a psychoactive compound. Rather, it is a type of cannabinoid that is obtained from various plants, a popular source being the hemp plant. That said, when a person uses highest grade CBD oil, their mental state is not intruded in any way whatsoever.

Though CBD does not change a person’s state of mind, it has other effects on the body. These are beneficial effects that continue to be studied, thanks to the significant therapeutic effects they have on the body. After extraction from hemp plants, CBD id then mixed with a carrier oil such as coconut and hemp oil. This makes CBD oil, available in different concentrations for different applications.

What Is Raw CBD Oil?

Following CBD extraction, many kinds of processing stages follow to refine it. Before refinement, it contains additional compounds that lower its quality. Such compounds include terpenes, chlorophyll, lipids, small microscopic plant materials and other contaminants. CBD that is not processed any further after its original extraction is known as Raw CBD oil.

How Does CBD Work?

When CBD is consumed, it links with the body’s central nervous system in the endocannabinoid system. Here, it interacts with cannabinoid receptors to produce effects in the body.

There are 2 types of CBD receptors in the human body:

  1. CB1 receptors: They coordinate appetite, memories, thinking, mood, emotions, pain, movement and other functions. These ate present throughout the body, especially in the brain.
  2. CB2 receptors: They affect pain and inflammation and are more common in the immune system.

Whether a person consumes CBD or not, the body naturally produces its own CBD, refereed to as endocannabinoid. Taking extra CBD however, increases the effect of this naturally produced endocannabinoid by stimulating the body to produce more.

How is CBD Consumed?

Tinctures And Oil Products:

They are consumed sublingually or placed under the tongue. After placing the oil or tincture under your tongue, hold it for a minute or so then swallow it. This method guarantees fast absorption, and effects can be felt within a few minutes and last for as long as 6 hours. It is effective, easy and long-lasting which makes it popular.

Creams:

Creams are applied like ointments onto the skin of the body. This way there is transdermal absorption. The benefit of CBD oil creams is that they improve the skin by moisturizing it. Note that these creams should be applied on the body, not the face.

Mixing CBD oils with drinks and food

Capsules:

Just like regular medicinal capsules, they are small cylindrical containers that contain CBD oil in them. They are typically absorbed in 45 minutes and last close to half a day. Water-soluble capsules can be mixed with food and drinks for those looking for a longer-lasting option.
